What an eventful month! Puerto Vallarta finally felt the effects of a Class 5 Hurricane. For as long as anyone can remember, hurricanes passed by and often produced a great deal of rain and some flooding but this event, the arrival of Hurricane Kenna on the 25th of October was a total surprise for everyone. The damage was severe in many areas but fortunately Marina Vallarta is a safe port and all of the boats weathered the storm unscathed. The port was closed for 2 days and there was some confusion trying to accommodate charters in a fully booked week, but for the most part, all went well. Check out more Hurricane Kenna details.

The fishing was fantastic in October, lots of fishermen and lots of charters. Most of the boats were out almost everyday and the afternoons in Marina Vallarta and Los Peines were exciting. Cameras were everywhere and the mates were expertly skinning big game while captains gleefully wrote up mounting orders. That 'Mysterious Mounting Place' will be on overload and may reach new heights in delayed deliveries.

For most of October, many tourists discovered why advanced reservations are necessary. The good boats were booked and it was not easy to get a last minute special that could float and cruise at over 10 knots simultaneously. And, as all boaters know, things can go awry and send captains scuttling to find a an alternative for the fishermen when the unforeseeable occurs. Find out why Marina Vallarta's most lovable boat owner was a tad testy in October.

Phil was in lovable Bill's Dog House because he had spooled a reel on the 30th of September so when a big Marlin was hooked on the 1st of October, Phil decided to fight it bare handed just to be on the safe side. Check out the consequences.

Ned Ludlow spent 3 days on the STRIKE ONE at the end of October. He had such great luck and joined the '300 pound+ club' as well as the 'Billfish club', and with a double header no less. Check out his trophies.

In honor of Hurricane Kenna, we have used weather and storm related midis this month. Just as bad as ever but try to 'Name that Tune' or simply turn off your speakers. Some day we may offer a prize if someone gets them all correct. (or maybe a prize if they get all the way through the report without ripping out their speakers)
